Denis Ochieng is the Director Finance and Business Operations at Uganda Development Bank Limited (UDB). He joined the Bank in May 2016 as the Director Finance before his role was reprofiled to Director Finance and Business Operations in January 2018.
He has played a strategic role in driving the growth of the shareholder value through mobilizing new funding from the Bank’s shareholders, multilateral and bilateral partners and creating operational excellence by instituting a cost and risk conscious culture and technologically adaptive operations. He was instrumental in the development and implementation of the fund raising and the business technology and digitization strategies, making the Bank a preferred choice for patient capital and partnerships for innovative digital solutions.
Prior to joining UDB, Denis was the General Manager Finance, at Equity Bank Group, a leading regional commercial bank, where notably, he successfully implemented cost rationalization initiatives for the Uganda business. As the Chief Risk Officer and Chief Finance Officer at the National Social Security Fund Uganda (NSSF), where he worked for four years, he streamlined cost management and developed a risk management framework for NSSF, that won an International Social Security Award for best practice in risk management in Africa in 2008. He also worked in DFCU Limited as the Group Chief Accountant where he streamlined global reporting for which the Bank got recognition by the CDC Plc Group Auditors, Ernest & Young.
Denis started his career in Price water house Coopers where he worked for five years as Senior Associate in Assurance and Business Advisory Services. He conducted a due diligence that CDC plc Group relied on to increase its shareholding in DFCU Limited.
Denis holds a Master of Science Degree in Financial Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland. He is a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and a graduate of Bachelor of Commerce from Makerere University.
