Behind every jar of honey from Tropical Honey Limited is a story of opportunity and transformation. By partnering with bee farmers across Northern Uganda, the company is turning honey production into a source of income, skills, and community growth.
With the support of Uganda Development Bank (UDB), Tropical Honey has expanded procurement, upgraded post-harvest handling, and trained farmers in best practices, helping them earn more, improve their livelihoods, and grow their businesses.
Before accessing UDB financing, Tropical Honey worked with 230 farmers. Today, that number has more than doubled to over 500 farmers, each with a reliable market for their honey. With a production capacity of 1,200 kilograms per month, the company has strengthened procurement, expanded apiaries, hired additional staff, and increased revenue by over 50%.
Through access to affordable and patient working capital:
- Farmers now have a steady and dependable market for their honey
- Training in apiary management and post-harvest handling has improved quality and incomes
- Household earnings have increased, supporting children’s education and daily needs
- Jobs have been created across production, processing, and distribution
- Market reach has expanded due to a consistent supply of quality honey
For farmers like Richard Ochete, who grew from two beehives to 50, honey is now a commercial enterprise that sustains his family and secures his future. With the right financing and value addition, agriculture becomes a pathway to inclusive growth.
If your enterprise has the potential to make a difference, UDB can help you turn your vision into lasting impact. We welcome enterprises to explore how our patient and affordable capital can support their growth journey.
