Sophie Nakandi is the Company Secretary and Head Legal at Uganda Development Bank Limited. She joined the Bank in January, 2019. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with focus in banking transactions, corporate governance and commercial transactions.

She was previously the Company Secretary and Head Legal at Tropical Bank Limited where she was responsible for provision of strategic direction of the Legal and Corporate Services function with a view to mitigating the Legal risk while supporting sustainable business growth in the Bank and before that an associate at Bakidde and Hannan Advocates. Sophie is also a member of the Board of Governors of Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School.

Sophie is passionate about governance and is among others responsible for ensuring that while at UDBL she mitigates the legal risks that the Bank is exposed to and facilitates the enhanced compliance of the Bank to the relevant statutory requirements and corporate governance practices.

Sophie is an affiliate of Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and a member of Uganda Law Society. She holds a Master of Laws degree from De montfort University, Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and a Diploma in Legal Practice from Law development Centre.
